“Achievements are built by talents, and causes thrive with them.”. On July 7, the first group of 2025 “Youth Government Service Experience Officers” officially began their duties at the Government Service Center of Fengtai District. Twelve outstanding students from ten universities in and outside Beijing—including Peking University, Minzu University of China, and North China Electric Power University—began their hands-on government service practice.
“As a student majoring in integrated circuits, I have had considerable exposure to artificial intelligence technology. I am also interested in government services and data management, and I am eager to apply my professional skills to the field of public administration.” said Yuan Zhen from Peking University, who applied for the large-scale website model optimization position and shared these thoughts with our reporter.
The reporter discovered that during this in-depth experience at frontline government service positions, students will learn the needs of businesses and citizens, guide visitors, and gain practical experience with various government services, including immigration, taxation, and real estate registration. They also refined procedures in response to common public feedback. As a key initiative under the 2025 “Fengtai Homecoming for Talents” program, this practice aims to recruit “Youth Government Service Officers” under the concept of “Leveraging the insights of students to digitally and intelligently innovate government services.” It aims to uses students’ expertise to improve service design, interagency coordination, and digital innovation—making government services more efficient, precise and user-friendly.
“This year’s roles focus strongly on digital intelligence and transparency. We've introduced new positions such as AI Data Experience and Website LLM Optimization. Students will test the AI Q&A systems on government platforms and provide feedback from a youth perspective, helping make digital services more engaging and effective,” said an official from the Fengtai District Government Services and Data Management Bureau.
The program also incorporates volunteer service, crediting participants’ volunteering hours. This recognizes their civic contributions while encouraging more young people to engage in social governance.
As China’s economy and society advance toward all-around high-quality development, talent has become the most crucial strategic resource. Beijing is developing its talent center and innovation highland as a key hub, with talent as the driving force. For Fengtai District, talent resources are not only a core competitive advantage but also a powerful force that empowers urban innovation and advances high-quality development. To foster a favorable environment for talent development, Fengtai must provide fertile ground for their healthy growth.
Looking ahead, Fengtai will leverage its unique geographical advantages and resource endowments to unlock its inherent potential. As the “multiplier development” strategy is implemented, it will attract an increasing number of talented individuals who will recognize the opportunities this strategy presents.
