Fengtai District is situated in the heart of Beijing, with borders extending to eight other districts. Fengtai District is contiguous with Chaoyang District to the east, Dongcheng District, Xicheng District, Haidian District, and Shijingshan District to the north, Mentougou District to the northwest, Fangshan District to the southwest, and Daxing District to the southeast. Fengtai District is adjacent to the two axes supporting the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, namely the Beijing-Tianjin axis and the Beijing-Baoding-Shijiazhuang axis. This provides Fengtai with the advantages of convenient transportation and coordinated industrial development. The urban plan for Beijing designates the following functions for the Fengtai District: Fengtai District is set to become an important provider of high-quality living services for the capital, a new business district, an integrated development area for technological innovation and financial services, a high-level comprehensive external transport hub, and a new urbanization development area with history, culture, and ecology. The four key development areas in Fengtai District are the South Central Axis Area, the Lize Financial Business Area, the Zhongguancun Fengtai Park, and the Hexi Area.
Fengtai District encompasses an area of 305.5 square kilometers, with topographical features that are more elevated in the west and lower in the east. The Yongding River, which spans approximately 14.3 kilometers from north to south, bisects Fengtai District into two distinct areas: the eastern region, which encompasses 179.4 square kilometers, and the western region, which covers 126.1 square kilometers.
In 2024, Fengtai achieved a regional GDP of RMB 249.39 billion and a district-level general public budget revenue of RMB 16.35 billion.
