Fengtai is located in the southwest of Beijing City, under the jurisdiction area of 304.87 square kilometers, in six areas of the city ranks third, the surrounding 8 adjacent area. East of Chaoyang District, north of Dongcheng District, Xicheng District, Haidian District and Shijingshan District, northwest of Mentougou District, southwest and southeast to Fangshan District and Daxing District. District Government in the town of Fengtai Road No. 2, straight 12 kilometers away from Tiananmen.

In the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, Fengtai District was of the ancient Beijing-the suburb of Ji Castle. Till the 2nd year of Tang Jianzhong (A.D.781), the west of Ji County was Youdu County. The center of the present Fengtai District (Lugouqiao Township and Huaxiang Township) was of Youdu County; and the east (Nanyuan Townshi) was of Ji County.

In the year 2009, total production value in the area is 60.07 billion yuan, increasing by 9.7% compared with the last year. Of them, the primary industry is increased by 100 million yuan, increasing by 4.3%; the secondary industry was increased by 14.14 billion yuan, increasing by 9%; and the tertiary industry is increased by 45.83 billion yuan, increasing by 9.9%.

In the year 2009, scaled industrial enterprise finishes total production value of 36.88 billion yuan, increasing by 4.3% compared with the last year. Of them, hi-tech manufacturing industry and modern manufacturing industry finish production values of 5.68 billion yuan and 15.09 billion yuan, increasing by 10.3% and 11.1%, accounting for 15.4% and 40.9% of total industrial production value. Scaled industrial enterprises realize sales production value of 34.95 billion yuan, increasing by 3.4% compared with the last year and ratio of production to sales 94.8%. Export delivery goods value is 1.34 billion yuan, falling by 10.8% compared with the last year.
