The Ruins of the Central Capital of the Jin Dynasty is located in the Lize Business District of Fengtai District, Beijing. It is made of three remains which respectively located in Fenghuangzui village, Wanquansi village and Gao Lou village. The Jin Dynasty moved its capital from Shangjing, which is Acheng District in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, to Yanjing, which is now called Beijing, and renamed it as Zhongdu. It is the first time that Beijing became the capital of a China. This is also an event of great significance in Beijing’s urban development. From then on, Beijing has become the real political, economic and cultural center of China.
The completion of the capital made Beijing the most prosperous commercial metropolis in the world at that time. The prosperity and high commercialization of it have stimulated the needs of emperors and nobles to enjoy the scenic spots. In those days, Beijing had a lot of waters, so it left plenty of scenic spots and historical sites for today in just 63 years. Beihai, Fragrance Hill, Diaoyutai, Yuquan Mountain, Taoranting Park, Yuyuantan Park etc. are all the emperor’s palaces. Today, the Eight great sights of Yanjing also formed from the Jin Dynasty.
The Jinzhongdu Park has been partially opened, with 2.6 hectares open to the public. The park is built according to the original “L”-shaped trend of the ruins. With the design concept of “a dialogue across millenniums, integration of ancient and modern”, the park is positioned as a “cultural park that records the long history and great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation” and “the front garden and meeting room of Lize Financial Business District”. It emphasizes the close connection between history and culture and the international financial business in the new era. After completion, it will become the cultural booster of Lize District and the literary connector of ancient and modern civilization. According to the plan of protection, the park will be divided into three parts: the site protection belt, the business and leisure belt and the green belt. It adopts three forms including folding line, white space and curve respectively, which is corresponded to the three themes of city, history and nature. It also reproduces and interprets the history and culture of the Jin Dynasty, and constructs the “Panoramic Museum of the Constitution of Beijing” with a diversified history, culture and ecology.
The Jinzhongdu Park has completed the preliminary procedures and officially started construction in July this year.
